Native Birds of the SW

The south-west of Western Australia is a bio-diversity hot spot with unique habitats and supports a rich diversity of native bird species, many of which are found nowhere else.  The region’s varied habitats—forests, woodlands, wetlands, heathlands, and coastal areas provide food and shelter for a wide range of birds. Native birds contribute to pollination, seed dispersal, and insect control, maintaining the balance of ecosystems. Many species are indicators of environmental health, and their presence reflects the condition of native habitats. Sadly many native birds species are threatened due to habitat loss, introduced predators, and climate change, particularly the black cockatoos. Conservation efforts focus on habitat restoration, nest protection, and community awareness.
