Native Frogs of the SW

The south-west of Western Australia hosts a diverse range of native frogs adapted to its Mediterranean climate, including the common Motorbike Frog, Slender Tree Frog, Quacking Frog, and burrowing species like the Banjo Frog and Turtle Frog. Endemic species such as the Karri Frog and the rare Sunset Frog inhabit moist forests and peat swamps. These frogs play vital ecological roles as insect predators and environmental indicators, with many breeding during winter rains and surviving dry summers through burrowing or dormancy. Habitat loss, disease, and climate change pose significant threats to their survival.
