With just a shovel and a bucket of water you can check what dung beetles are in your ground, it's super simple. Find a target manure pile and scoop the whole pad (and a few centimeters of soil) into a bucket of water. The beetles soon float to the top and can be scooped out. Do this throughout the year as often as possible to give you a good overall picture of what's going on. Count how many dung beetles you find and if you want to get really clever use the dung beetle photos in the Gallery to identify them. Remember to keep records including date, how many beetles you found, where they were and any identified species.
