Are you a farmer, part of a Landcare group, or simply passionate about sustainable agriculture? Southern Forests Community Landcare (SFCL) is excited to invite you to a free, hands-on workshop dedicated to smarter parasite management through Worm Egg Counting (WEC).
Why Worm Egg Counting Matters?
Parasites can be a costly challenge for livestock producers, but traditional control methods often lead to unnecessary expenses and can harm beneficial soil organisms—like the incredible dung beetle! This workshop is all about empowering you to:
Assess pasture contamination
Decide when and what to treat
Check the effectiveness of dewormers
Protect your bottom line, soil health and the dung beetle
Meet the Expert
Local sheep producer Emily Stretch will join SFCL’s Katrina Zemke to demonstrate both manual and AI-powered worm egg counting. Emily brings over 15 years of experience, Paraboss accreditation for FECPAK, and a wealth of knowledge in sustainable parasite control. With Emily’s guidance, you’ll learn how to interpret your WEC threshold and turn what you see under the microscope into actionable decisions for your farm. Plus, you’ll get practical advice on starting WEC on your own—no need to worry, it’s easier than you think!
Protecting Dung Beetles & Soil Health
SFCL’s Dung Beetle Soil Health Initiative recognizes the importance of minimizing the impact of drenches on dung beetle survival. To support smarter decisions, SFCL has invested in automated WEC tools and sample subscriptions for local producers.
Workshop Highlights
Live demonstration of the FECPAK machine—an AI tool for efficient WEC
Free FECPAK testing of livestock samples for attendees
Expert advice and hands-on learning
