The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and Southern Forests Community Landcare invite the local community to a ‘Meet the Scientist’ opportunity at Green Island next week. As part of its Healthy Rivers Southwest project, Dr Tim Storer will be fish sampling in the Green Island river system. Dr Storer is passionate about sustainable management and regulation of WAs water and environmental resources. Green Island is one of about 150 unique river ecosystems in WA currently being closely monitored to develop strategies to best protect them. Learn about how ‘water-take’ is regulated, the physical nature of the island and current strategies employed to protect it.
This is a very informal event but will be super interesting; details are as follows.
Date: 24th February 2026
Where: Green Island campground at 450 Ladycroft Rd, Glenoran approximately 23 km west of Manjimup via Graphite Road and Donnelly Drive.
Time: 10am start (please arrive a bit earlier).
What to bring: Water bottle, hat, sunscreen, sturdy walking shoes (yes you will be doing a bit of track walking along the river).
(Children are definitely welcome but must be closely supervised by a responsible adult as this event is next to the water. Dogs must remain on leash at all times and under control of the owner).
